This drum solo was performed at an event for the Guild of Oriental Dance. Of course some of the small shimmy-vibrations and flutters are a little lost at this resolution, but hopefully you'll get the idea. Thanks to Linda for the video work.
Mirah Ammal's performance in "The 5th Annual Evening of Middle Eastern Dance" staring Sahra Saeeda, hosted by Samantha Fairuz and Denise. Milwaukee, WI, 2008.
This is a theatrical interpretation of haggalla dance, which comes from the Egyptian Western Desert and Libyan border region. Thanks to Linda Brown and the Guild of Oriental Dance for the video production.
A contemporary raks assaya (not in traditional costume) at a performance for an Al-Bahira Dance Theater/Aalim School of Dance fundraiser. Video by Najwa.
Mirah Ammal performs a dance with shamadan (candelabra) in the January 2007 Oriental Treasures performance. (May be a little dark/difficult to see at the beginning as she entered through the audience in the darkened theater, but it gets easier to see once she reaches the stage.) Thanks to the Jurischs for the videography.
Performed at the 2008 "Spooktacular Hafla" by Al-Bahira Dance Theater. This is a pirate version of a troupe sword dance (somewhat rechoreographed for the event) performed at a Halloween-themed hafla for Aalim School students and friends. We were a little squashed for space front-to-back and the eye patches made it hard to judge distances, so there are a couple of formation oddities.
