Deanna Durbin delivers a stunning rendition of "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's opera, "Turandot". This is the only time I have ever heard a female sing this aria AND with English lyrics. Deanna never looked more beautiful than in this clip from 1943.
Chris de Burgh performs "Lady In Red" on Australian TV several years back. This was the version he recorded for his "Beautiful Dreams" album. An exceptional songwriter with a haunting voice.
"Lost Is Space" is one of my all-time favourite shows. One of the reasons why is because of the friction created between the characters, Don West and Dr Smith. Here's Mark Goddard (looking fantastic at 61!) with the Robot when they visited Australian shores in 1997.
Teen idol, Bobby Sherman, star of "Shindig" and "Here Come The Brides", was a sensation back in the late 60s, early 70s. Like his contemporaries eg David Cassidy, Donny Osmond etc, he had good looks, charisma, was multi-talented, and possessed a certain uniqueness that set him apart from all the others. It's unfortunate that today's teen idols seem to be carbon copies of eachother.
In part 2 of this ultra-glam fashion show you will see Morgan Fairchild, Jane Seymour, Jaclyn Smith, Deidre Hall, Linda Evans, Raquel Welch, Dyan Cannon, Janet Leigh, Susan Lucci, Laura Branigan, Linda Gray, Priscilla Prseley, and so many more wonderful stars of the 80s!
From "Wuthering Heights - The Musical" comes the haunting ballad, "Had To Be". Cliff starred in the stage musical itself, but Olivia was featured only on the soundtrack. It comes from the mid-90s.
In 1977, Debby Boone (daughter of Pat Boone) had the biggest hit in the US with "You Light Up My Life." Her first album contained this particular song, "Baby I'm Yours." Debby is still beautiful, happily-married with kids, and has recorded many Christian-music albums.
One of the best singers I ever saw live in concert was Gloria Loring. Her voice was faultless - never a wrong note - and she was (and still is no doubt) a classy performer. She starred for many years as Liz Chandler on the long-running soap opera series, "Days of Our Lives". This live version of her hit song "Friends And Lovers" comes from an appearance which coincided with her Australian tour.
Johnny Farnham, as he was then known, in a very early performance. Undoubtedly one of the greatest talents this country has ever known...An dig those dancers!
